Why Declawing is a Bad Idea (An 1-minute guide)
Don’t argue convenience…cats are more likely to make poops outside the litter box if you declaw them - the litter hurts their paws!
Also, one thing that wasn’t mentioned in the comic is that declawing can actually throw off a cat’s sense of balance since cats normally walk on the fronts of their feet.
Also, I have spent time watching my cats and they use their claws like fingers to grab and manipulate things. Yes, they could get by without that finer manipulation, but so could I, and won’t even wear mittens because I hate it so much. I can’t fathom maiming someone I love for the sake of some replaceable furniture.
What bothers me so much though is that when you tell people these things, they always say "well I’ve always done it and my cats have been FINE". That’s not the fucking point. People can live perfectly good lives missing major fingers but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck.
look, if your furniture is more important to you, then don’t get a damn cat.
Consent, properly understood in a society where men have turned both desire and freedom into dirty jokes, is a reality only between or among peers, and the poor and the rich are never peers.
Anton Stankowski, Systematisches, 1970. Via Quittenbaum.
The nature of women’s oppression is unique: women are oppressed as women, regardless of class or race; some women have access to significant wealth, but that wealth does not signify power; women are to be found everywhere, but own or control no appreciable territory; women live with those who oppress them, sleep with them, have their children—we are tangled, hopelessly it seems, in the gut of the machinery and way of life which is ruinous to us. And perhaps most importantly, most women have little sense of dignity or self- respect or strength, since those qualities are directly related to a sense of manhood.
In Revolutionary Suicide, Huey P. Newton tells us that the Black Panthers did not use guns because they were symbols of manhood, but found the courage to act as they did because they were men. When we women find the courage to defend our selves, to take a stand against brutality and abuse, we are violating every notion of womanhood we have ever been taught. The way to freedom for women is bound to be torturous for that reason alone.
